What We Do

Keep Toledo/Lucas County Beautiful (KT/LCB) is just one of Keep America Beautiful's nearly 700 state and community-based affiliates. We have been working to improve recycling, prevent litter, and beautify neighborhoods since our certification in 1988. Both the City of Toledo (certified in 1981) and Lucas County (certified in 1988) are KAB affiliates under Keep Toledo/Lucas County Beautiful. Over the subsequent years, we have expanded our services as we strive to ensure that Toledo/Lucas County stays beautiful.

As a result of our efforts, we received the 2021 Keep Ohio Beautiful Community Award. This award recognizes affiliates that have gone the extra step to improve environmental stewardship in their communities. We have achieved this goal by improving event recycling and organizing collections for hard-to-recycle items throughout 2021.

In 2021, we educated a total of 1,359 youth through presentations, activities, and our puppet show, Riley’s Adventure. We reached an additional 1,584 individuals through college and adult workshops, podcasts, and virtual presentations. Our volunteer's have had an extraordinary impact on our environment and community. In 2021, our volunteer programming resulted in 30 native tree and grass plantings. We also provided recycling services to an estimated 250,000 people, which prevented recyclables from entering the landfill. 2021 volunteer programming also resulted in approximately 26,550 lbs of litter being removed from our neighborhoods, streets, and parks.
