The Huff Run watershed is a small watershed located in northern Tuscarawas and western Carroll Counties, Ohio. Although it is small, the watershed has major environmental concerns: acid mine drainage (AMD). This pollutant is the result of a long history of historical unregulated coal mining. The Huff Run Watershed Restoration Partnership, a citizen based catalyst group, was formed in 1996. The ultimate goal of the Partnership is to return Huff Run to its original warm water habitat. The group conducts extensive environmental education and works closely with government agencies to accomplish their restoration mission. Their sponsor organization, Rural Action, is based in Trimble Ohio and is dedicated to revitalizing Appalachian Ohio.
